The Programme Not Taken

The QM2 is a gorgeous, beautifully appointed ship!
Yesterday, the DH’s headache was gone and we ran madly from one activity to another—a hurried breakfast, water color class, a rushed lunch because of the disappearing hour, dance class, a concert by the Green Spring kids, a new planetarium show about asteroids, quick showers and glamming up for another formal night dinner, a Broadway review by the Royal Court Singers and Dancers, then dancing in the Queen’s Room.

We are working way too hard on this trip.

So today, we are checking out. We took our time over breakfast, decided not to take part in the passenger talent show which would have required us to rush to a rehearsal at 9:30, and strolled to our 10:00 watercolor class—not to start another project but to finish the ones we’d already started this week. It’s a surprisingly restful activity and one I hope we’ll continue to make time for when we get home.

After lunch, we plan to hibernate in our cabin until it’s time for supper. And no dancing after the show. We dock in Southampton tomorrow and our excursion to Stone Henge leaves at 7:30 AM!

More soon…

  1. We’re also docking in Southampton tomorrow. Passenger turnover day ... we’ll be doing some sightseeing and returning to the ship ... no packing for us.

    1. Erin! I wish I'd known we'd be in the same port. It would've been lovely to meet IRL. I wondered if you were on the Marina and waved furiously as we sailed by.

    2. We were on Nautica. Came in ahead of you.

  2. Thanks for keeping us up to date. It is great that you can take some time just to enjoy being on board the ship, and not having to do an activity!

    1. Thanks, Gordon. The temptation to fill every minute with activity is something I have to guard against constantly. I used to program our vacations and drive our family from one frenetic thing to the next as if I was killing snakes. Now I'm starting to appreciate the value of doing nothing.

  3. Sorry Brian had a headache. Sounds like you are having a lot of fun. Happy you have met some nice couples & have to be asked to leave the dining room so they can serve the next couples! tee Hee
