Day 57 ~ Smooth Sailing

 March 7, 2022

Not sure about the temp because I haven't been outside all day.

NAUTICAL HERO OF THE DAY ~ Jean Baret, first woman to circumnavigate the globe

In 1766, Mme Baret boarded the expedition ship Etoile with her botanist husband, Philibert Commerson. But she didn't embark as his wife. It was against the law for a woman to be aboard a French navy ship, so she went disguised as a man so she could pose as her sickly husband's valet and assistant. After the Tahitians called her out for her true gender, she and Commerson disembarked in Madagascar where they stayed until her husband's death in 1773. Later, she returned to France as herself, completing her circumnavigation.

Just thought you might like a peek at our schedule on a sea day:

  • Sleep until we wake naturally.
  • Listen to the Bible in One Year app on our cellphones. (Our pastor has suggested the whole congregation do this study. It helps us feel connected to our church at home.)
  • Breakfast in the World Cafe. I prefer an omelet. The DH goes for scrambled eggs.
  • 10:00 AM ~ Our last sea day art class for quite a long time because we are about to hit a string of port days!
  • 11:00 AM ~ Lecture on the History of Malta by Wing Commander (Ret.) Bill Simpson
  • 12:00 PM ~  Lunch with Kristy and Dave in the World Cafe. The theme is French cuisine. The coq au vin was delightful!
  • 2:00 PM ~ Relaxing in the Thermal Suite
  • 4:15 PM ~ Art Show in the Atrium ~ All our work from the last several weeks was on display!
  • 5:15 PM ~ Port Talk on Malta, our port of call on March 9th
  • 6:00 PM ~ Supper with our friends at The Restaurant
  • 9:00 PM ~ Evening Show in the Star Theater. Tonight we'll hear from our first comedian--Jeff Stevenson. Fingers crossed that he's actually funny.
  • 10:00 PM ~ Time for bed because we have a very early excursion in Cagliari, Sardinia tomorrow!
More soon...

    1. We really love sea days. It's not that we couldn't be this lazy at home. We are retired after all, but when we're on the ship, I don't feel GUILTY for being so lazy.
