My Master Packing List

Wow, I am a guy, but I think you are way over packing clothes. If you can get all that in your bags and stay under weight limit for flying, I want you to teach me.
ReplyDeleteOn a serious note: couple thing. 1) bug repellent if you just buy some when you are out of country or on the ship, you will get one with a higher Deet Content. U.S. limits the amount of Deet in a product. Deet is what keeps the bugs away. Wait to buy it and get more protection. 2) Magnets. Not sure the type you have, but if they are standard house type, spend a little bit on Amazon and buy some of the super strong ones. Each little magnet will hold up 7-10 pages of paper. I have these in my Cruise box and take them each time. By the time a cruise is done, I have decorated a whole wall. Also you can take super strong hook magnets to be able to hang things. Just my thoughts.
Lastly, In ready your blog and others doing this type of long trip, I have decide when I get to go, I am going to get a world map. Hang it on the cabin wall, (with my magnets) and track our progress by marking the map. I think it would make a good memory of the trip and add a nice personalized item for our cabin.
Oh, and you got no Duck Tape!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just my thoughts.
John
Thanks for your comment, John! You may be right about the amount of clothes, but just as sure as I leave something behind, I'll want it. Also, we don't have a high enough status on Princess to get free laundry, so more clothes packed = less time spent in the launderette. So far my big suitcase is only 58.5 lbs. Since we splurged and are flying first class the weight limit is 70 lbs for each bag. I think I will manage to get everything in under weight.
DeleteRe: bug repellent--because of my lung condition I can't use a spray so we bought repellent "wipes." Didn't know if they would be available everywhere.
I'll take a look at those super strong magnets. And thanks to my dear friend Marcy, we have a world map to take with us. I just forgot to put it on the list. (See why I need one!)
This may be a woman's point of view showing here, but what would you use duct tape for on a cruise ship?
I am a guy. I can do just about anything with duct tape. Did you ever watch McGuyver? Fix luggage, temporary hem, hold something together, leak in the ship ;), I once stayed in a friends mountain cabin and found out there was no shower curtain, duct tape and trash bags, bang, I had a shower curtain. its endless, just ask your husband.
ReplyDeleteJohn
Correct me if I am wrong but didn't most of McGuyver's ingenious innovations result in a spectacular explosion sooner or later? I have heard of making a faux wedding dress with white duct tape at a bridal shower, but I don't think women generally understand the universal male admiration of the stuff.
DeleteI have safety pins & a travel sewing kit for a sagging hem, but I'll tell you what. If I discover we need duct tape, I promise to buy some at the Honolulu Walmart! ;-)
Can you take Zicam? I never travel without it and Clorox wipes for the plane ride. I second the duct tape - you can find small travel size on Amazon. Also the heavy duty magnets as well. As for too many clothes - never! Put half away under the bed so you have something new and fresh half way through your trip. If I only have to unpack once I use the bundling method of packing - especially with my DH clothes his are extra long! Someday when we retire an around the world cruise is on my list - so I will look forward to you fabulous posts! But I'm not jealous - really, I'm not . . . honestly . . . sigh
ReplyDeleteP.S. don't forget the Press N'Seal for your toiletries!
H20mac3
I've never tried Zicam, but I have pretty good luck with the cold remedies listed above. I do travel with wipes and a hand sanitizer. I should put them on the list.
DeleteI've been hearing magnets from everybody. I looked at Walmart, but I think I should try Amazon. For my toiletries, I tape them shut and double bag them.
I've been dreaming of taking a world cruise for years. Sometimes, it didn't feel as if we'd ever be able to do it, for both financial and health reasons. But everything has come together now and I'm feeling so very grateful and incredibly blessed.
Keep dreaming. Your day will come. ;-)
you can get 100% deet spray in the US...no problem. Of course if you have to use wipes it may be a different story. BTW thanks for the list.
ReplyDeleteMy pulmonary therapist doesn't want me to use any product that comes in a spray, which means I can't cook with Pam. I can't use spray deodorant or hair spray. I'm not supposed to use anything powdery either, but I sometimes cheat on that with a little powder blush. (I just hold my breath!)
DeleteWe used the bug wipes in Peru and they seemed to work pretty well. Amazon also has head nets that you can put over your hat, face and neck. You can find the heavy duty magnets on Amazon as well (of course). I use Zicam before I get on a plane and when I feel a bug coming on. It won't cure a cold but it usually eases the severity. I have asthma so I understand not being around sprays. Don't forget back up nail clippers and tweezers. Mine always either break or disappear. Thank you for taking us along with you - I can't wait to read all about your amazing adventures!
ReplyDeleteP.S. I thoroughly enjoyed The Coldwater Warm Hearts Club!
Peru! That must have been quite an adventure! Per your advice, I just packed a pair of clippers and tweezers along with my makeup.
DeleteI'm so glad you're coming along for the ride with me on this trip and I'm tickled to pieces that you enjoyed THE COLDWATER WARM HEARTS CLUB. The next book is A COLDWATER WARM HEARTS WEDDING (Lacy & Jake are tying the knot...or are they?) and in October A COLDWATER WARM HEARTS CHRISTMAS will be coming out. ;-)
